This aircraft was designed to outperform all previous attempts at providing fighter escorts for bomber formations — all the way from The Channel to the target and back. However, in Late 1943, the range of the P-51 wasn’t good enough yet for such long missions — that is why you can see those droplet-shaped fuel tanks objects on the bottom.
