My name is Nellis. I live with a lifelong sensory condition that makes daily life in the Netherlands unlivable — and I need to relocate.
I experience constant overstimulation from noise, crowdedness, and artificial surroundings. I’ve spent my entire life trying to adapt, but my health is now collapsing under the pressure.
I’m currently working with researchers — including those at the University of Virginia — who are investigating a second layer of my condition: vivid, coherent memories and physical symptoms tied to a previous life as an American airman killed in World War II.
I’m seeking a lawful move to the United States — the place where I once lived, served, and died — because it is the only environment that offers both physical relief and scientific progress. This is about healing — and contributing what I know to the people studying these phenomena with seriousness and compassion.
The Netherlands is one of the most densely packed and overstimulating places in the world, with more than 1400 people per square mile (compared to 95 in the U.S.), over $41 million in national debt per square mile, and nearly zero untouched nature. My nervous system can no longer keep up. I need help.
If you care about the future of science, the survival of rare neurological cases like mine, or simply the right of someone to breathe and exist in peace — please help me get home.
— Nelis
